Indulge in the refreshing and healthy delight of Greek Yogurt and Cucumber Dip with Veggie Sticks, a deliciously tangy  and nutritious snack perfect for any occasion.

This traditional Mediterranean recipe has roots dating back to ancient times when Greeks combined strained yogurt, cucumbers, and  aromatic  herbs to create a cooling dip for warm days.

Greek Yogurt and Cucumber Dip, known as Tzatziki, was often served alongside pita bread and meats, but its popularity  spread worldwide, and today it’s enjoyed with an array of accompaniments, especially veggie sticks.

For an authentic touch, use thick Greek yogurt and strain it to achieve the desired consistency. Adding fresh dill and mint  imparts an aromatic twist, elevating the flavors.

This dip is a nutritional powerhouse, offering a rich source of protein, probiotics, vitamins, and minerals from the yogurt.  Cucumbers contribute to hydration, and the veggie sticks add fiber and essential nutrients.

Refrigerate the dip in an airtight container for up to 3 days, ensuring its freshness. The renowned celebrity chef, Nigella Lawson,  has publicly expressed her love for Greek Yogurt and Cucumber Dip with Veggie Sticks, often recommending it as a light and tasty snack in her cooking shows and books.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 cucumber, finely grated and drained
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh mint, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Assorted veggie sticks (carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, celery, etc.) for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Start by grating the cucumber using a fine grater.
  2. After grating, squeeze out the excess moisture from the cucumber using a clean kitchen towel or paper towel.
  3. This step is crucial to prevent the dip from becoming too watery.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, chopped dill, and mint.
  5. Drizzle the extra-virgin olive oil and lemon juice over the mixture.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Stir all the ingredients until well combined. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
  8. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dip for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  9. Before serving, give the dip a quick stir.
  10. Arrange the Greek Yogurt and Cucumber Dip in a serving bowl and surround it with an assortment of veggie sticks for dipping.
  11. Enjoy the refreshing and healthy snack!

Note: You can also serve this dip with pita bread, chips, or as a sauce for grilled meats and falafels.
